And the best bugler is…..

On Saturday our lads who are part of the Battalion Band made a trip to Bexley Heath for the London District Band Competitions.

The band had all been practicing hard in the build up to this, and although they played extremely well, they didn’t manage to place in the top three of the Devonshire cup competition.

Over the past year the band has grown in confidence, so much so that not only did we enter the bugle team competition, but Dan and Mark entered the individual bugle event. Dan did really well and I’m proud to announce that Mark Dawson came first in the competition overall. We are pretty sure that this is the first time that someone from our company has achieved this.

National Competition roundup

Written by Jack on .

For the last five months the lads (and the leaders) have been running to and fro in the south east of England having entered every national competition available. We’ve had varying degrees of success notably with the company section football team having reached the south of England final. The chess team improved on last year’s performance by reaching the second round.

We entered two teams into the table tennis both of which won their first set of matches. One team faltering when they were drawn against last year’s national champions.

Unfortunately we weren’t as successful in badminton or master team (quiz) as both teams were knocked out at the first hurdle.

In the ten pin bowling competition one of our teams were knocked out in the quarter finals with Taylor achieving the highest score of the day! Whilst sadly the other team fared less well.

During our travels we have been welcomed by companies in Reading, Southampton, South end and Bracknell showing the lads that the boys’ brigade is a lot bigger than our church premises in Worcester Park.

Tonight the Company Section took part in the National Badminton Competition. It was the first round against (and hosted by) the 2nd Reading Company. The boys played well however we lost 2-0 in all but one match, that finished 2-1. They greatly improved their play over the night and I am sure Badminton will make an appearance on a Wednesday very soon. Good Luck to the 2nd Reading in the next round against either the 2nd Alton or the 1st Crowborough.
